Do you have a small bathroom? If so, you may be thinking about remodeling. You can renovate the space and make it larger without cutting into another room's space. How? By more effectively using the space you have.

A total renovation may not be necessary to make the space feel bigger. If you are trying to get more elbow room for your family, you can do it without necessarily tearing the room apart. Try these ideas.

Mirrors: Slight of hand in creating the illusion of space

Mirrors do lots of things. They let us see our own image, but they also reflect the room. People sometimes position mirrors so they are opposite one another. This seems to increase the look and feel of the space. It also increases the light in the space as well. Mirrors add elegance to a bathroom--or any other space in which you utilize them.

Paint is your friend, if you use the proper color

Bathroom renovation is a big undertaking. The color you paint the room is critical. Paint color can make a space pop or make it shrink. If your room is small, you want to open it up so you want to choose a color that will make it seem bigger. Lighter colors make a space seem big and dark colors close in a space. Many people go with beige, off-white, or white to make a room look bigger. Whatever light color you choose, also paint the ceiling the same color. This will make the room seem bigger. Stay away from dark colors because they will pull the walls and ceiling in around you.

Clutter eats up valuable space in a room.

Anything you can do without needs to go. If there are items in the room that you don't need, take them out. Your choice of cabinetry and fixtures are key here. Free-standing cabinets eat more space than cabinets that are attached to the wall or the countertop.

A large vanity is nice, but if it dominates the entire room and leaves no available space is it really worth it? You can get a smaller vanity, which is still just as usable, but leaves space for other things in your bathroom. It's important to use the space as best as possible.

If your remodel requires demolition, you can handle that yourself. The money you save can be used for other extras in the room. Your budget can handle some perks because you have a small bathroom. Thus, there is less space to work with. But saving money wherever possible is always good.

The bathroom is a useful space and you need to take care renovating and redecorating. You want to make the space seem larger than it is. Many homes lack space; indeed it has become a luxury in our society. But you can use all the tricks at your disposal to make your bathroom seem larger.
