Renovate Your Home, Renovate Your Bathroom

It's possible to make your bathroom feel larger without having to tear down any walls or give up any storage room. You don't even need to hire a renovation expert, so you can save a little money and not have to deal with strangers in your house. Your family will love having a bathroom that looks great and seems to offer so much more room. Follow a few of these suggestions and you'll be amazed at how big your bathroom will suddenly seem.

Take Advantage of Mirrors

Mirrors are a wonderful way to make any space look larger. To really magnify the effect, place a mirror on opposing walls so that you have two mirrors facing each other. The room you're in will appear to extend on forever. More importantly, mirrors reflect light, so you'll be able to brighten a room without adding more lamps. Mirrors also reflect the colors of your walls or the pattern of your paper, adding to the illusion of space and light. And, of course, mirrors add an element of grace and elegance to any room.

Select the Proper Color for Your Walls

The color of the walls in a room will have an impact on your sense of size. Dark colors create a sense of closeness, shortening one's perspective so that a room seems smaller. These colors are commonly used in areas where you wish to create an air of closeness and occupation, like a living room. For smaller rooms, like a bathroom, where the intent is to make the room appear larger, you should select a much lighter tone. The most common colors for such renovations are white, beige or off-white. Be sure you select a ceiling color that is in the same vein - a light color to give the sense of size.

Remove Those Unnecessarily Large Items to Get More Room

As your planning your bathroom renovation, keep in mind that one of the best ways to create space is by removing any items that you don't need. Consider the cabinets in your bathroom. Free-standing cabinets use a great deal of space, so replace them with a set that fits under the sink or countertop. If you have any furniture in the room, say a large rack or vanity, see if you can find a smaller one. This will save space and still leave you with a necessary bit of furniture. Remember, less clutter makes a room look larger.

Even if you don't have a large home with plenty of space for renovations, you can still make a small room appear to be larger just by proper use of a few simple ideas. Your bathroom is one of the most visited rooms in the house, though often the last anyone ever thinks of renovating. So the next time you start thinking about fixing up your house, don't forget to include the bathroom in your renovations. Your bathroom can go from small and dark to large and welcoming in just a few days.
